VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUND - DEODORISATION

Whether indoor or outdoor, the air that we breathe has a continual impact on our health. Given the large percentage of time that people spend within buildings, the indoor environment is a very significant environmental exposure for the entire population. Much attention has traditionally focused on the occupational environment, but exposures to environmental agents within the home, schools, colleges and recreational buildings may also determine human health outcomes.

On the deodorisng application, the hydroxyl radicals accelerate the breakdown of any Volatile Organic Compounds or VOCs by destroying the molecular bonds. This will help combine the organic gases to form a single molecule that is not harmful to humans thus enhance the air cleaning efficiency. Some of the examples of odour molecules are: formaldehyde, diesel, nitrogen dioxide, parrafin, paint, petrol, tobacco odour, urine and faecal odor and many other hydro carbon molecules in the atmosphere.

VOC’s or Volatile Organic Compound sare organic chemicals that evaporate into the air. Indoor sources include: paints and lacquers applied on wallpapers, wood preservatives, plywood, moth repellents, cleaning supplies, pesticides, everyday items such as perfumes and hair sprays, office equipment such as copiers and printers, graphics and craft material including glues and adhesives.

Health Effects

Chronic exposure may lead to compounding long-term health effects. However, even a short period of exposure to VOC's may cause symptoms such as:-

Eye, nose, throat and respiratory tract irritation (e.g. conjunctival irritation)

  Headaches

  Visual disorders

  Memory impairment

  Loss of coordination

  Nausea and vomiting

  Allergic skin reactions

Damage to liver, kidney and Central Nervous System (i.e. brain and spinal cord)

Indoor Air Pollution

Respiratory and allergic effects in infants have also been associated with VOC's.

"Around two million children under five die every year from acute respiratory infections, the largest killer of young children. These infections are aggravated by environmental hazards such as indoor air pollution. Indoor air pollution is the 8th most important risk factor and responsible for 2.7% of the global burden of disease."   - World Health Organisation Fact sheet April 2003 & June 2005

Long-term exposure to VOC's in an indoor environment can cause what is termed as ' Sick Building Syndrome (SBS)'. SBS can be attributed to flaws in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Other causes include the out-gassing (i.e. release or give off as gas or vapour) of VOC’s by building materials and moulds.

How TiO2 Photocatalytic Oxidation helps eliminate the problems…

As an affordable, safe, and transparent “Ultra-Thin-Film” that is vital to the health of the occupants of your residing environment, TiO2 PCO offers a layer of protection against indoor air pollution. It is able to continuously oxidise all harmful organic components such as VOC's in the air, breaking them down rapidly into harmless substances such as carbon dioxide (CO 2) and water vapour (H2O .

TiO2 PCO is the fastest and most economical way of eliminating lingering odours and smoke residue from hotel and smoking rooms, purifying the air to remove all odours at no extra cost to you.

TiO2 PCO treatment is virtually permanent and thus lasts a long time ensuring that you save on maintenance fees.
